Blackware Pottery basket

$125.00

Blackware Pottery has been an expression of aesthetic value as far back as ancient India. The Greeks and Romans popularized the black-to-black iteration from the 5th century BC. The 20th century Native Artisans Maria and Julian Martinez brought the contrasting matte/polished surface to the next level of craftsmanship. Although it cannot be confirmed that either Maria nor Julian formed this lovely little basket, the style, rolled construction, and heft of the pottery belies it’s Pueblo heritage. Patina and pitting is consistent with it’s age and firing process.
